Commission approves permanent relocation of Precinct 1 and schedules second reading for precinct-boundary amendment

The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to approve the permanent relocation of Precinct 1 and introduced an amendment to the cityordinance governing election precinct boundaries.

City Manager Greg Shipman told the commission that Precinct 1 "has been located at Turner Chapel Church, 125 Clinton River Drive, since 2013" but due to recent building problems the city will move the polling place to Greater Morning Star Church at 87 Robertson, effective immediately. Shipman said the Mount Clemens Election Commission approved the relocation by resolution at its meeting on 07/11/2025 and that affected voters will be notified by first-class mail, posted notices and the city's website and social media.

Separately, the commission voted to introduce first reading of an amendment to section 12.201, section 1 (election precinct boundaries) to eliminate the boundaries of Precinct 9 and assign those boundaries to Precinct 5. The motion set Aug. 4, 2025, as the date for second reading and adoption; the ordinance amendment was reviewed by the city attorney before the introduction.

What happens next: the commission will hold a public second-reading hearing on Aug. 4, 2025, where residents may comment before final adoption; the city will implement voter-notification steps for the relocated precinct ahead of the next election.
