Commission adopts MDOT contract to resurface Hubbard Street, city to fund remaining 18%

The Mount Clemens City Commission voted July 7 to adopt a resolution approving a Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) surface transportation contract (MDOT contract no. 25‑5311) to resurface Hubbard Street from Eldridge to North Avenue.
City staff told the commission the total project cost is $497,300. Federal surface transportation funds will cover 81.85% of applicable costs, and the remaining $91,008.97 will come from the city’s major streets fund. The contract and municipal resolution were presented to specifically name the officials authorized to sign the agreement.
During discussion commissioners described the award as a favorable funding arrangement that enables work the city could not pay for solely from local revenue. A commissioner noted that the city had applied for related funding on other Hubbard segments previously but that this section had not been applied for before.
What happens next: Shipman said the contract is in order and the city attorney has reviewed it; officials were authorized to sign the agreement so the resurfacing can move forward under MDOT procedures.
