Mount Clemens answers resident questions on sidewalks, dogs and river maintenance

At the May 19 meeting, commissioners and staff addressed multiple resident questions carried forward from public comment on May 5.
On sidewalks, staff cited City of Mount Clemens Ordinance 30.1 and said property owners are responsible for repairing hazardous sidewalks adjacent to their property. Staff also stated that the Mount Clemens Foundation, which is not affiliated with the city, has reimbursed some residents in the past for sidewalks but that the foundation’s selection criteria and current status were not known and would require follow-up by foundation representatives.
Regarding power-line easements behind homes on Lindsey Drive, staff said the city is not aware of an easement in that location and that if DTE performs line-clearing, it or its private contractors are responsible for debris removal. For river maintenance, staff said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers only clears sections it deems navigable and that the stretch by Clinton River Drive is not considered navigable; residents were advised to contact Macomb County Public Works (586-469-5325) to request work and to note limited county drain-maintenance funds.
On pets, staff reiterated that the city allows up to four dogs per household and that dogs may not be at large. For incidents such as dog bites, residents were told to call Mount Clemens animal control at the numbers provided during the meeting.
