City manager reports new single-family permits, summer events and election turnout

City staff reported on building permits, public events and election turnout during the May 19 commission meeting.
Speaker 4 said building permits were issued for new single-family homes at 71 Smith and 147 Barber, bringing Mount Clemens' 2025 total to four single-family residential builds. The historical-commission speaker series is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, at 1 p.m. at the Crocker House Museum; registration was announced via the event site noted in the packet. City offices will be closed Monday, May 26 for Memorial Day; refuse pickup will run one day behind schedule for the holiday week and resume the normal schedule on Monday, June 2.
Parks updates included splash-pad hours at Shadyside Park beginning Memorial Day weekend and running to Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Speaker 4 also noted the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is looking for members and provided a department contact.
On elections, Speaker 4 reported 2,151 ballots were cast in Mount Clemens, a turnout of 17.59 percent, and reminded residents that the next city election is Nov. 4, 2025, with candidate materials and a filing deadline of July 22, 2025 at 4 p.m.
Commissioners closed with brief community reminders about Memorial Day ceremonies and thanks to volunteers who maintained veteran flags.
