The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to confirm the city manager’s appointment of Carl Hay as the city’s recreation director and set an annual salary of $60,000, city staff said.
City Manager Shipman summarized Hay’s background, noting multiple years of recreation experience, grant-writing, program implementation, and leadership of youth and senior programs. Shipman said Hay “is administration’s preferred candidate for this important role due to his background knowledge, skills, and experience.”
Several commissioners and residents praised Hay’s community work. A resident, Nelson Jackson, told the commission he appreciated Hay’s commitment and said he would "do everything I can to make this city proud" (public remarks by the appointee at the microphone). Multiple commissioners recounted prior volunteer work and noted Hay has strong ties to community recreation centers.
The commission called the roll and recorded affirmative votes to confirm the appointment.
The confirmation included brief public applause and multiple statements of support from commissioners; next steps for the recreation department include program expansion for summer activities, senior events and youth programming under the new director.
