City manager reports on rain barrels, compost program and downtown events

City Manager Jeff Shipman provided routine community updates during the Mount Clemens City Commission meeting. He said rain barrels purchased under the combined sewer area program have been delivered and that a small number remain for eligible residents. The city’s curbside compost program is scheduled to begin the week of March 23 on residents’ regular refuse collection days, and Shipman reminded residents not to place brown paper leaf bags or containers at the curb before that week.
Shipman said Mount Clemens Recreation will offer drop-in pickleball on Tuesday evenings at Kearns Community Center and a six-week line-dancing class starting March 26. He also promoted a Mother/Son (Superheroes and Sweethearts) dance on March 29 ($45 per couple, registration online) and a kids business fair on May 10. Vendor space for the city’s Made in Michigan show is reportedly filled for May; the Uptown Friday night concert series is scheduled to run June 6 through Sept. 12.
Shipman also announced that candidate packets for the November elections (mayor and city commissioner races) are available at the city clerk’s office, with filing material due by July 22, 2025 at 4 p.m.
Residents with questions were directed to the city website and the recreation registration portal; Shipman asked residents to follow downtown development authority social channels for an upcoming events survey.
