Council approves series of facility and infrastructure contracts including alarm replacement, maintenance warehouse design and generator services

Tuscaloosa City Council approved a bundle of professional and maintenance contracts covering city facilities and infrastructure. Approved items included:
- A minor public works contract with PCI Technologies to replace an aging fire/alarm system at the Hiller Fletcher wastewater treatment plant and network it with a new on-site building, funded from water/sewer facility renewal.
- Professional services with Markham Architects (architectural/engineering) to renovate a newly acquired building at 1209 James I. Harrison so it can house facilities maintenance and IT field operations; funding comes from proceeds of the Hopkins property sale deposited into the RFFI.
- Annual inspection and maintenance services for roughly 88–90 city generators, funded across general fund and water/sewer accounts; the vendor line items will be broken out in the resolution presented to council.
- Design services with Smith & Stegall to plan removal of an underground diesel tank and transition the TPD generator to natural gas, as the existing unit (installed circa 1989–1990) nears the end of its service life.
- Repairs to undersized roof drains on the Kinta Building (Queen City Pool House), including upsizing drains, surface mounting to concrete columns for improved drainage, and related sheetrock and plumbing repairs; funding from facility renewal.
Council members asked about funding sources and timelines for several items; staff said surveys and designs would be completed on the schedules discussed and that the generator and facility work is funded from facility renewal or RFFI as noted. Each item was moved and approved by voice vote.
