Summary
Polk County School Board honored quarterly 'Focus on Excellence' winners, accepted donations of gift cards from the First South Florida Missionary Baptist District Association, and members reported on recent community events including MLK activities and the Polk County Youth Fair.
The Polk County School Board devoted a portion of its Jan. 27 meeting to recognizing district staff and community partners.
Jeanette Crowley, Director of Strategic Planning and Partnerships, presented the district’s Focus on Excellence quarterly awards, honoring paraeducators, nutrition staff and other employees from across the system. The program, in its sixth year, spotlights 12 nominated employees each quarter and is supported by a list of local sponsors.
The board also recognized the First South Florida Missionary Baptist District Association for donating more than 300 Walmart gift cards to local elementary schools and thanked association representatives who attended the meeting. Board members used their reports to highlight student achievements in athletics, arts and career programs, to acknowledge MLK events across the county and to describe strong community turnout at the Polk County Youth Fair.
