The Tempe City Council unanimously approved a concessionaire agreement on Oct. 15 with Arizona Cycle Boats LLC to operate a fleet of pedal‑powered cycle boats on Tempe Town Lake.
Owner Robert Meyer told the council each cycle boat would seat up to 26 passengers plus captain and first mate; tours were described as roughly two hours and intended to draw local and visiting groups to the lake and downtown. Meyer said guests 21 and older would be allowed a limited number of low‑alcohol‑by‑volume beverages on board and that the company aims to host groups including birthdays, conference outings and school field trips. He said boats have already been secured and the operator would be ready to begin operations by January 2026, pending final logistics.
Councilmembers praised the project as a lake activation opportunity likely to benefit downtown restaurants and tourism. There was no separate public hearing for the contract and no public opposition was present at the Council Chambers during the item. The motion to approve passed 7–0.
