Decatur County adopts ADA transition and Title VI plans, names coordinators

County planning staff and consultants from USI presented updated ADA transition and Title VI implementation plans for county buildings, parks, sidewalks and unincorporated communities. Mitch Hansel of USI explained the team surveyed county facilities, identified deficiencies and updated the Title VI plan to ensure nondiscrimination and accessibility.
The commission opened a public hearing; staff said the hearing was advertised and no public comments were offered. Commissioners then voted to adopt resolution 2026-3 to approve the ADA and Title VI plans. The resolution also designates Doug Westerfeld as the county ADA coordinator and Christy as the county Title VI coordinator. "We reviewed all of your buildings and...came up with a list of deficiencies and then updated your Title VI plan," the USI representative said.
Staff said they would distribute a list of required facility updates to county departments. One commissioner noted the county's survey and public-focus groups for the comprehensive plan and encouraged continued public input when the first draft is published.
The resolution passed on a voice vote; commissioners signed the documents following the vote.
