The Kansas Senate Transportation Committee recorded introductions of four bill requests during its meeting.
Senator Ethan Corson introduced bill 26RS2485 to designate the junction of Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 69 and the 18th Street Expressway in Johnson County as the Representative Robert M. Tomlinson Memorial Interchange. “Representative Tomlinson served our community with tremendous distinction for a number of years,” Corson said when offering the measure; the committee took no objections and the bill was introduced.
Travis Lowe, representing AAA Kansas, requested introduction of draft bill 26RS2472 aimed at requiring hands‑free driving in construction zones when workers are present and in school zones during designated hours when children are arriving or leaving school. The committee chair noted the draft is on file with the Revisor’s Office and the bill was introduced without objection.
Senator Kelly Warren requested two bill introductions: 26RS2729 concerning the proper display and visibility of license plates for law enforcement purposes, and 26RS2827 addressing inconsistencies in DUI provisions related to driver‑license suspension. The chair introduced the bills individually after confirming members and staff had no objections.
Committee members did not hold hearings or take votes on the measures during this meeting; the introductions were procedural steps to place the measures on the committee’s docket. The chair also said the committee expects to take up the transportation budget soon and encouraged rapid handling of bills that were late in the prior session.
