The Fulton County Council on Jan. 21 approved an amendment to its county salary ordinance to include a $2,500 supplement for the chief voter-registration post that was left out of the published ordinance text.
The presiding council member read Ordinance No. 01212026, described as an amendment to Ordinance 11182025 establishing the county salary schedule and compensation policies. "The part we left out was voter registration — the supplement of $2,500, which we approved in the budget was just left out of the salary ordinance," the presiding council member said, urging members to insert the omission so the employee can be paid as budgeted.
Council members discussed the change briefly and then moved and seconded approval. The chair called a voice vote and recorded the ordinance as approved.
The ordinance text read aloud during the meeting referenced Indiana Code 36-2-5-3 (as read in the meeting) to justify the council's authority to fix compensation for county-funded positions. Officials said the amendment restores language necessary for the auditor to issue payment for the elections position as included in the adopted budget.
Next steps: the council signed the ordinance during the meeting; no additional public hearing was required for this budgeted supplement. The council recorded the approval and will finalize implementation through normal payroll processes.
