Manitow Center asks Fulton County to boost annual support to $50,000 for parking and program expansion

"The Fulton County Commissioners currently allocate $30,000 a year to the Manitow Training Center," Gilley told the board, adding the center is rapidly outgrowing its facilities and seeks county help. He asked commissioners to "consider increasing our allocation by $20,000. That would give us an even 50," to support renovations and graveling a west-side lot to improve accessible parking.
Gilley and Wallace Bunge described the center's operations and fundraising: the Manitow location serves about 37 daily clients and coordinates with a larger Marshall Stark site; recent shifts away from subminimum-wage sheltered work left interior space that the center hopes to renovate for programming. The presenters said the center's overall operating budget is about $200,000, that the Marshall Stark administrative office currently floats much of the carryover, and that Fulton County support helps pay for community employment programming, volunteer projects and job training.
Commissioners did not take an immediate vote on the funding request during the meeting; they advised the presenters to discuss the proposal with the council and budget decision-makers. Gilley encouraged commissioners to review the center's online fundraising campaign and offered to host commissioners at the facility so they could see the space and program needs firsthand.
Next steps: Manitow Center will follow up with the county council and the commissioners during upcoming budget and appropriation discussions.
