The policy establishes guidelines for notifying employees, suggested a 10 a.m. reassessment on storm days, and instructs staff to formalize how essential workers are compensated when the courthouse is closed.
"I get alerts from the state throughout the day 24/7," said Speaker 5, summarizing the notification process and the need for clear written guidelines. The board discussed compensating essential road and law-enforcement workers with "storm pay" and additional vacation hours or comp time and asked staff to spell out the payroll treatment to avoid confusion.
The board approved the inclement-weather policy by voice vote and asked staff to prepare written procedures for holiday pay, comp time and an extra-hours bonus policy for the road superintendent for future action.
