Two young advocates from the YMCA recounted close calls and crashes involving friends, urging lawmakers to impose meaningful penalties and direct some proceeds to trauma centers. "This bill will ensure that when careless drivers cause harm that harm will be directly followed by accountability and meaningful penalties," Isaura Valdez said.
Law‑enforcement and safety organizations signaled support; no amendments were offered. The committee voted 18‑0 to report HB 807 favorably.
