Livonia study session previews Feb. 9 consent agenda with multiple appointments, awards and purchases

At its January 2026 study session the Livonia City Council previewed a slate of consent-agenda items scheduled for the Feb. 9 regular meeting. Staff and council summarized each request and the reasons they will appear on the consent agenda.
Items previewed for placement on the Feb. 9 consent agenda included:
- Noise ordinance waiver request from Robert Reyes/Knights of Columbus for a car show with a DJ at Saint Collette's Catholic Church (06/06/2026). - Reappointment of Mary Celino (Board of Review) for a three-year term (through 02/16/2029) and reappointment of Laura Weingarten (Board of Ethics) for a three-year term (through 03/01/2029). - Board of Review meeting dates and compensation (assistant city assessor Jacob Laberatti said chair pay is $120/day, members $100/day). - Authorization for the law department to execute a memorandum of understanding with Detroit Institute of Arts Partners in Public Art for a community mural at Ben Chelanee Play Area; council will supply a representative to the work group. - Parks & Rec awards/purchases: pool chemical automation and switch to granular chlorine (price quoted $3.55 per pound held for two years), court resurfacing at Dufour Park ($33,850 low bid), and two greens rollers for municipal golf courses (low bid $52,525). - DPW awards/purchases: 2026 right-of-way tree planting ($155,250 low bid for 450 trees), Ford Field backstop and dugout replacements ($30,440 low bid), a fats-oils-grease (FOG) prevention contract with Eganix (one-year with extension options), and a Ford F-150 fleet replacement/upfit ($64,351.35 total including contingency). - Authorization to increase rock salt allotment (increase 2026 allotment to 2,800 tons with up to ~30% additional take under the Farmington Hills consortium) and Act 51 map additions/decertifications.
Most items were described as routine or housekeeping; several residents used audience communication to ask questions about alternatives (pool-water sanitation options), planting quality, and fleet size. Councilmembers and staff indicated these items will be returned as consent items for formal action on Feb. 9.
