Auburn Hills council approves routine minutes, city manager highlights new Common Roots cafe

AUBURN HILLS — The Auburn Hills City Council on Jan. 5 approved two sets of meeting minutes and a three-item consent agenda, and City Manager noted a new downtown cafe called Common Roots.
During the first portion of the agenda the council unanimously approved the city council workshop meeting minutes from Dec. 8, 2025, and the regular meeting minutes from Dec. 8, 2025. Later the council approved the consent agenda, which included Downtown Development Authority informational meeting minutes (Dec. 1, 2025), Downtown Authority meeting minutes (Dec. 1, 2025) and Planning Commission minutes (Dec. 10, 2025). Dr. Fletcher moved to approve the consent agenda; Mr. Knight seconded and the motion carried with all recorded votes in favor.
The mayor opened the public comment period and reported there were zero speaker cards and no members of the public came forward.
In the city manager’s report the manager told the council a new business, Common Roots, a coffee shop and cafe, has opened downtown in the space that formerly housed Blue Skies Brewery on the south side of Auburn Road. The manager encouraged residents to visit and said the cafe had been newly remodeled. The manager also noted a budget guide compiled by the treasury department is available in City Hall and online.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn passed; no further substantive policy items were on the Jan. 5 agenda.
