Portage board adopts 2025–26 school calendar after discussion of winter break timing

Administration told trustees the grading period would close Jan. 9 and principals could be flexible in scheduling final exams so portions could be completed before break if appropriate.
Trustees raised concerns about students losing instructional time over the holiday and the effect on high‑school final exams and College Board schedules; administration said the draft balanced those concerns with the goal of offering families an extra weekend prior to the school year and preserving graduation dates. The board moved and approved the calendar by roll call.
