Committee approves Monument Health contract to provide firefighter medical evaluations

Fire Chief Culberson asked the Legal and Finance Committee on July 31 to approve a professional services agreement with Monument Health to provide medical physicals for operational firefighters in compliance with national fire medical standards. "We're asking to enter into a professional services agreement with Monument Health to provide our physicals for our operational level employees that are compliant with NFPA 1582," Culberson said, adding that the department conducted an informal RFP and is changing providers.
Committee members approved the contract (motion by Bieberdorf, second by Seacrest; voice vote). After the vote, members asked about the status of a state workers’ compensation bill concerning firefighter cancer benefits. Culberson said the bill was delayed and effectively killed in its most recent form but that staff and the division chief continue to work with stakeholder groups and plan to return with a revised, more broadly palatable proposal next legislative session.
The committee recorded no additional conditions or amendments to the Monument Health contract during the meeting. The contract approval was handled on the consent calendar as item 14.
