Duchesne County moves to approve approach permits and buy new plow truck

The Duchesne County Commission approved two driveway approach permits for properties in Cedarview and voted to purchase a new Western Star plow truck during its April 22 regular session.

Roads staff reported progress on multiple maintenance projects and pavements, saying recently placed lifts take about three days to dry and compact. Staff described material arriving at about 16% moisture that must be reduced to roughly 8% before placement. Projects discussed included North Crescent striping, intersection repairs and mobile crusher maintenance.

Commissioners heard details about the proposed plow truck — described by staff as similar to recent purchases but with a larger engine and fuel tank and an automatic transmission. One speaker moved that the county "purchase the plow truck with the sander and, dump that and the plow for $348,758," and the motion was seconded. Staff said the vendor will charge an additional $3,500 tied to tariffs. The county expects the truck to be assembled by Jan. 1, with payment scheduled toward the end of the year.

Earlier on approach permits, staff described two Cedarview requests — one residential lot with a steep driveway and one small office building — and Speaker 2 moved to approve the permits "as presented." Speaker 1 recorded that the motion was made by "commissioner Judd" and seconded by "commissioner Kane." The board approved the permits by voice vote.

The commission did not specify a financing source for the truck purchase during the discussion; staff said some payments will not be required until November or December when final billing occurs. The meeting did not include a formal roll-call tally in the transcript for these votes; actions were passed by voice vote.
