Deerfield students describe peer‑tutor program that pairs older and younger classmates

Students Avery, Zoe, Owen and Alexander described meeting once a week to help younger classmates with homework, test preparation and study strategies. Alexander, who receives tutoring, said the program helped him "get better grades" and made concepts easier to understand.
Teacher leaders Ms. Gold and Mrs. Reisman told the board the program is staffed by volunteer peer tutors and that requests for help come from students; teachers then pair tutees with available tutors and arrange meeting days. The board presented certificates and took a group photo to thank the students for their participation.
Board members asked students about sign‑up and learning outcomes; students said tutoring refreshed their own knowledge, increased patience and gave them practice in explaining concepts. The presentation concluded with certificates and a short performance for the board.
