Barnstable County recognized in national digital county survey; officials report web and social growth

Bill Travis, IT director, said the county was recognized in the 2024 Digital County Survey by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties for innovative technology and data governance work. Sonya from communications reported a 77.3% increase in website visitors from July 2023–July 2024, higher social‑media reach and follower growth across platforms, and the launch of a communications procedures handbook intended to formalize posting, crisis communications and departmental coordination.
Travis and staff emphasized cybersecurity training for employees and participation in multistate information‑sharing partnerships that provide threat intelligence. Commissioners commended the teams for consolidating social accounts, improving transparency by publishing financials and meeting materials online, and for growing the county’s presence on LinkedIn and other platforms.
No policy vote was required; the presentation was accepted with thanks and encouragement to continue coordination across departments.
