Arts staff reports murals, utility-box art and steady budget; community activations served ~100 artists

Arts staff presented the year's work plan and community-arts outcomes to the Fayetteville Arts Council, reporting progress on murals, utility-box installations and year-end events, and noting the city adopted a flat budget that preserves current arts programming for the coming fiscal year.

Joanna summarized public-art activity: a mural on Solecki Trail is already in installation, with a celebration scheduled for 3 p.m. on Dec. 1; utility-box art pieces approved last month are being installed on Dixon Street, College Avenue, Lafayette and North Street; and a ribbon cutting for a YRCC mural will take place Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. "We had that special meeting to approve some, some, additional public art," Joanna said, and reported the recent city-council action included approval of the arts budget as a flat continuation of current funding.

Sarah Downing delivered a community-arts programming report, saying staff were still awaiting final reports from some program partners but that preliminary numbers show about 100 artists participated across activations and roughly 1,500 attendees. "Again, over a 100 artists served across our activations and about 1,500 attendees," Sarah said. Staff said they will compile a comprehensive report for the council at the December meeting and will use the data to plan next year's programming.

Council members noted upcoming opportunities to showcase local artists — including a December 9 regional panel in Bentonville and multiple winter art markets — and confirmed the December meeting will coincide with the YRCC mural ribbon cutting and a holiday social.
