Staff explained the original plan would have cost more than $300,000; by reusing existing components and using city labor where possible the net parts cost was reduced to $130,000. Council member Speaker 4 moved the measure and the motion passed by voice vote.
Council also approved a one-time $30,000 purchase to replace a failing fire-alarm system at the plant. Members described repeated false alarms and visits from the fire marshal; staff said the $30,000 replacement is a one-time fix preferable to repeated small repairs. The motion passed by voice vote.
Both items were presented as necessary to maintain plant reliability while the council and consultants address inflow and infiltration and longer-term system funding.
Council recorded the approvals during the meeting; procurement and installation will be handled by Public Works and plant staff.
