The effort aims to move systems currently on older versions (6, 6.7, 7.x) toward version 8 to maintain security patching and gain newer features.
IT Director (Matt) said the contractor is highly qualified and that the engagement would function as a bridge — expected to last about a year to complete the bulk of the work and to upskill county staff. "Just in exchange for getting him on board for a long for a while, like, he could train us up to where we won't might not need him as much next year," the director said.
Commissioners asked how the effort would be funded; one commissioner noted the service rate appeared high and asked whether the county could solicit bids. Staff said the contractor had previously provided similar services and that knowledge of the county's specific system argued for continuity rather than competitive rebidding; staff agreed to revisit costs and to explore a six‑month engagement as a compromise.
No contract was approved on June 2. The commission asked staff to renegotiate fees, identify budget sources and return with a revised proposal or accommodate the expense through the upcoming budget process.
