The Morrow County Board of Commissioners on a unanimous roll call adopted a proclamation designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Speaker 3 read the proclamation aloud, saying, "Whereas there were a 169 reports of abuse and neglect maltreatment investigated in Morrow County in 2024 affecting 375 children." The proclamation cites the National Center for Child Abuse and Neglect's recognition of April and references House Bill 165 as background for the month-long awareness designation.
The proclamation text emphasized that preventing child abuse "depends on involvement among people throughout the community" and called on citizens, community agencies, schools, religious and civic organizations, law enforcement and businesses to increase participation in prevention efforts.
By roll call, the commissioners recorded "Yes" votes and the proclamation was adopted. The board did not set additional funding or new program requirements in the proclamation; it is a formal recognition and a call for community engagement.
