Board of Education seeks $34.4 million local appropriation and $140,000 for two school vans

The presentation also included a $140,000 miscellaneous capital request to purchase two specially built 10-passenger vans intended for high-school athletics and long-term efficiency savings.
The presenter said the budget reflects negotiated staff salary adjustments (a 5% increase cited for staff) and a shared 2% health-insurance increase. The board also noted it expects a hold-harmless "disparity" grant from the state in the neighborhood of $1.76 million; presenters said they have not yet received written confirmation and are not counting the money as guaranteed.
The BOE representatives acknowledged the county's prior support and said the relationship with commissioners and Garrett College has supported multiple capital and program improvements. Commissioners thanked board representatives and said they would review the request as part of the county's FY26 budget process.
