Ted Hinkley described his booking strategy as one that balances higher-cost acts with less expensive ones so the program can remain sustainable. “I think putting music stuff is for what it costs, I think it adds great value to your community,” Hinkley said, explaining he seeks a “shotgun” approach to reach different tastes and bring a variety of performers to the city.
Councilmembers and staff discussed scheduling decisions — several members favored keeping the weekly concerts on Thursday nights so the events do not compete with other local Friday and Saturday activities and to attract better touring acts without conflicting with weddings and weekend travel. One councilmember noted Thursday nights often allow the city to draw stronger talent without competing with Bridal and Saturday evenings.
The presenter said he has booked acts from in-state and nationally, and raised the possibility of attracting large acts such as touring symphony engagements if venue logistics could be arranged. Council thanked Hinkley for the work and encouraged continued coordination on staging, background visuals and site selection.
No votes were taken on the music program at the meeting.
