Staff described the selection as the result of a score-panel interview process that included external assessors and internal reviewers. Commissioners said the process appeared to run smoothly; Staff member (S2) said they sat in on the interviews to facilitate but did not score candidates.
The certification places Battalion Chief Zach Hickman on the deputy fire chief promotional list for Iowa City. No additional votes, appeal steps, or timelines for appointment were specified during the meeting.
