At the Oct. 23 meeting, Latasha, a senior center staff member, provided a facilities update that included exterior painting to restore a historic color palette, window screens and interior repairs. "It's going back to the kind of the more historic look of that time period in the colors," she said, and noted that doors will be replaced soon, which may require temporary closures for installation.
Latasha said a kitchen project is underway for cleaning and adjustments tied to an upgraded building automation system that will allow better temperature control. She described the kitchen as unlikely to return to a full cafeteria operation; instead staff are considering repurposing the space as a culinary learning area or a small cafe (soup, salad, sandwiches) that could be supported by volunteers or partner chefs. "There is hope," she said when asked about kitchen plans, and added that final decisions will be part of a larger interior renovation RFP planned for 2026.
The commission was told the master plan process will include an RFP for designers and that commissioners will have an opportunity to give feedback on internal renovation plans once the designers are selected. Latasha also said staff plan to include some furniture/seat improvements in capital improvement planning (CIP) for more seating in high‑use areas.
Procedural items: the commission moved to accept the Sept. 18 minutes and approved them by voice vote. At the meeting’s close, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded, and the commission adjourned by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will circulate updated policies for review, forward them to the city attorney, and return with design materials and implementation details as the 2026 RFP process advances.
