Sussex County announces $7.19M resurfacing contract; transcript lists both contract and grant figures

Deputy director Carney told the board on Nov. 26 that the county's 2024 resurfacing program would be awarded at the meeting to the lowest responsive bidder, Shiafano Construction Corporation. The transcript records a contract amount of $7,190,000 to resurface approximately 23.5 miles of county routes and states the project uses grant funding and Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) monies.
During the same presentation, county staff also stated the project "utilizes $7,600,000 of grant funding and TTF money." The transcript therefore records two figures: a $7,190,000 contract amount and $7,600,000 referenced as grant/TTF funds. The county did not reconcile the difference during the public remarks recorded on the transcript. The board later moved to adopt awards of contract/change order resolutions a–d during the meeting and roll calls were taken for those resolutions.
Deputy director Carney said work is expected to begin in the spring and be completed during the summer months. The board's formal minute entry and contract documents should be reviewed for final contract values and funding sources.
