Farmers Branch council unanimously adopts zoning change to allow warehouses at Valley View Lane

FARMERS BRANCH — The Farmers Branch City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt Ordinance 3917, a zoning amendment to allow warehouse and distribution uses on roughly 22.9 acres at 1349 and 1399 Valley View Lane within Planned Development District No. 78.

City staff provided a brief summary for the public record and the council dispensed with a full presentation. Pearl LaTavera, director of economic development, tourism and planning, told the council the matter concerns a rezoning for warehouse and distribution uses on the two addresses and noted the property is a former landfill and part of a Planned Development proposal (PD 708) to add warehousing and distribution as permitted uses.

An unidentified council member asked for a short summary ‘‘to make sure that the public has one message about this action,’’ a request staff obliged. With no members of the public signed up to speak, the council moved to close the public hearing, then moved to accept and approve Ordinance 3917 as presented. The motion passed unanimously.

The council had convened earlier in an executive session under Texas Government Code section 551.071 subsection 2 to seek confidential legal advice regarding 1349 and 1399 Valley View Lane; after returning from the executive session, members reported there was no action required as a result. The special call meeting adjourned at 9:54 a.m.; the council took a short break before beginning a planning session workshop.
