Farmers Branch library board to ask council to consider eliminating overdue fines

The Farmers Branch Library Advisory Board revisited a proposal to eliminate overdue fines and agreed to seek City Council consideration.

Board members discussed the same fine‑free proposal they reviewed at a prior meeting. Speaker 5, in the director's report and earlier discussion, said the proposal has not changed and that libraries that have eliminated fines "have not put forward any problems." Speaker 5 also described the current fine structure as "10¢ a day, up to $10 per item," and said replacement fees would still apply if an item is lost or damaged.
