The Ocean Shores Planning Commission on Sept. 9 appointed Randy Johnson vice chair following the resignation of Dan Bricker and continued routine business on committee housekeeping and public amenities.
With no other volunteers, the commission voted by voice to make Randy Johnson vice chair; the presiding member congratulated him and asked him to assume the post.
Commissioners reported progress on an updated planning commission handbook: members have drafted and reviewed pages 1 through 21, submitted additional changes and expect to collate edits and forward the consolidated document to city council for approval when complete. Tom Beese and Dennis were cited as having provided input; the handbook will require council approval before it becomes official.
On public restrooms, Steve reported results from surveying 16 Point Brown Avenue businesses: "Everyone of them has restrooms. Only the Red Sky Tattoo allows customers to use the restroom," he said, estimating that 94% of the sampled businesses do not permit customer use. He said some businesses were closed or unresponsive during follow-up visits and that many direct people seeking public restrooms to the arcade. Commissioners said the survey results explain a perceived shortage of readily available public restrooms in the core business district.
Next meeting: the commission set its next meeting for Sept. 23, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the Ocean Shores Library Meeting Room.
