Morrow County commissioners approve routine payments, grants and appointment; plan dedication for fallen deputy

Morrow County commissioners met May 21 and approved a slate of routine financial actions, a juvenile court grant and a personnel appointment while discussing logistics for a dedication ceremony honoring a deputy killed in the line of duty.
The board voted to approve bills and a series of payments, including receipts from Chesterville, Lansville, Keterman and Simulco customers and a recycling electronics payment from DKMM. Commissioners also approved appropriation of certified monies for the general fund and sheriff and approved transfers to the engineer’s fund and the treasurer’s fund related to tax-lien sales following motions and affirmative roll-call votes.
Commissioners authorized Chairman Timothy Siegfried to sign the Morrow County Job & Family Services Title 20 accounting profile and approved the juvenile court grant agreement and pending application described by staff as an annual two-year arrangement. The board also voted to appoint Jimmy Broker as finance coordinator under Morrow County Sheriff’s Office policy 103.
Commissioners and staff spent significant time on arrangements for a public dedication and remembrance following the recent line-of-duty death. ‘We will take a moment of silence, during that ceremony to honor and recognize the life of our fallen,’ said Rucker, announcing an open house Saturday from 9–11 a.m. with an 11 a.m. ceremony and noting an expected procession between noon and 1 p.m. Officials discussed options for parking, portable toilets, sound equipment and traffic control and said they would contact state agencies about signage and traffic assistance.
Near the meeting’s close the board passed a resolution to decommission Deputy Daniel Sherr’s badge and gift it to his family; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. The commissioners adjourned following that vote.
What happens next: the engineering staff will review bridge bids presented at the meeting (see separate notice) and county staff will continue planning the dedication ceremony and any public safety traffic controls.
