Price City will begin charging for public EV charging stations after grant-free period ends

Price — Price City Council voted June 11 to adopt an electric rate schedule for the city-owned electric vehicle charging pedestals, ending the five‑year free-use period required by the original grant terms.
Staff explained the charging stations were partly grant-funded through UDOT and that federal/state grant rules required free access for at least five years. That five-year period has ended and the city will now begin charging users to offset maintenance, repair and electricity costs. Council considered Resolution 2025-15 and adopted it by voice vote.
Councilmember and staff comments noted the change will be advertised so the public knows the charging pedestals will no longer be free. No rate schedule amounts were read into the record during the discussion; staff said the new schedule will be advertised as required before implementation.
Next step: staff will publish the new rate schedule and follow the public-notice process for implementation of paid charging.
