Stayton planning commission continues Dollar General site-plan hearing to Nov. 25

The Stayton state and planning commission on Oct. 28 voted to continue a public hearing on a site-plan application for a proposed Dollar General at 101 Whitney Street until Nov. 25, 2024.

Amy Watts, vice chairperson, opened the continuation and asked the commission to postpone action while the city council considers a related zoning text amendment. "My name is Amy Watts. I am the vice chairperson for the state and planning commission, and I will be continuing the public hearing in the matter of land use file number 10-0624," Watts said.

Commissioner Richard Booth moved to continue the hearing for the application submitted for the property at 101 Whitney Street by the applicant identified in the transcript as SDG State in Oregon LLC (Sam Moore). A second was given and the motion passed by voice vote; commissioners answered "Aye." The commission recorded the continuation to Nov. 25, 2024.

The proposal described in the hearing record is for a 10,640-square-foot commercial building to be occupied by a proposed Dollar General, including associated parking, access and landscaping. An unidentified commission member noted the city council will hold a public hearing on Nov. 4 on a text amendment that would allow general merchandise uses; the speaker said that council decision will likely determine whether the site plan can proceed.

Next steps remain procedural: the city council will consider the text amendment on Nov. 4, and the commission has scheduled the continued public hearing for Nov. 25, 2024. The commission did not record a roll-call vote tally for the continuation beyond the verbal "Aye" responses at the meeting.
