Board reviews 2025 building and code reports; rental inspections booked into 2027

During the Jan. 27 meeting, building and code enforcement staff presented December 2025 and year-end reports and answered board questions about enforcement trends and inspection capacity.
The building representative said the rental-inspection program is fully booked for the year and "we're now booking into 2027," adding that reinspections are scheduled promptly and, if the rental inspector cannot return, code officers will conduct one- or two-item reinspections. The staffer said inspectors are certified and that landlords have praised the inspector's work.
Board members asked for trend-line tracking to show monthly patterns of new and resolved violations so the board can monitor whether issues slip through the cracks. A question about the report's 'fire' column (zero across) drew explanation that burnt-out or demolished houses that were corrected by owners do not always generate compliance agreements; if a property must be demolished via OTA, the city issues a bill for demolition.
Members noted differences in resolved-violation counts among officers; staff said Ken Hunt resolves many issues informally in his district and therefore logs fewer formal violations. The board approved the building department, code enforcement, and rental-inspection reports for 2025.
Staff clarified that the rental-inspector year-end report covers roughly six months because the inspector started in July 2025.
