Councilmember Bloomenfield recounted the history of the Friends of Taxco exchange, noting student and adult delegations and arts collaborations that have continued for more than six decades. A Friends of Taxco representative said the group donated $3,000 for two student projects used to purchase a stove, a microwave and a refrigerator for local schools.
Mount Saint Mary's University representatives thanked the Council for the recognition and highlighted the university's role educating women and first-generation students in Los Angeles over the past century. Dr. Anne McClainy Johnson and student leaders described centennial events and a new health and wellness pavilion as part of the university's next steps.
The presentations included student groups and faculty; the council presented certificates and took photographs. No formal votes were taken on these ceremonial items.
