Several residents used the citizens’ participation period to press the commissioners on service needs and community events.
Jill Hudson, owner of Market Hub, urged the board to support programs for people experiencing homelessness, praised a Hope for Home program for working families and asked whether the county could offer low-cost downtown space or support low-barrier grants for providers that need commercial kitchen or warming-kitchen space and bathroom facilities. Hudson urged partnership with local nonprofits that serve unsheltered people and veterans.
Representatives of the Community Free Clinic invited commissioners to the clinic’s Feb. 8 gala and requested consideration of a $1,500 sponsorship; the clinic provides free medical care to county residents and expanded to include mental health services in 2019.
Later, a lengthy public comment from another attendee included multiple allegations that the county retained outside counsel to seek protective orders to avoid subpoenas, accused specific county officials of corruption and of withholding documents, and criticized sheriff’s office investigative activity to identify a pseudonymous social-media source. Those claims were presented in public comment without documented rebuttal or follow-up in the meeting transcript.
The board did not take immediate action in response to the allegations recorded in the transcript; commissioners proceeded with the agenda items that followed.
