Washington County Commissioner Kiefer to resign effective Feb. 21

Commissioner Ted Kiefer announced during the public meeting that he will resign from the Washington County Board of Commissioners effective Feb. 21 to accept a work opportunity that will require more of his professional attention and allow him to spend more time with his family. Kiefer said he plans to serve through Feb. 21 to finalize county work and transition ongoing projects to colleagues.
Kiefer read a letter to the board describing nearly a decade of public service since 2016, three terms in office and his belief that temporary public service best serves the community. He said his wife and young daughter influenced his decision and that he does not intend to leave until remaining county work is transitioned.
President John Barr thanked Kiefer, calling him a “tremendous asset” and offered personal appreciation for his service. No appointment or timetable for filling the vacancy was announced during the meeting.
The board did not take further action on the resignation at the meeting; commissioners and staff acknowledged Kiefer’s work and wished him well.
