The city manager announced that, during closed session, the Chico City Council voted unanimously to appoint Ryan Jones of the Jones Mayor law firm as the city attorney for the City of Chico, with an effective date of Dec. 3, 2025.
The city manager said the council authorized the manager to enter into an agreement with the firm and that transition work would begin immediately. "The council voted unanimously to appoint Ryan Jones of the joint Jones mayor law firm as the city attorney for the city of Chico effective 12/03/2025 and provided the city manager with the authority to enter into an agreement with Jones mayor that will be brought back to the council in January," the manager announced.
The manager said work on the transition would begin the following day. The manager also reported that other closed-session items (labor negotiations and another listed item) resulted in staff direction but no final action; one listed closed-session item was not heard.
The council did not discuss the appointment in open session beyond the manager’s announcement; the transcript records the closed-session result and the timeline for returning a contract to the council in January.
