Chico council appoints Benjamin Metray to Arts Commission, 7–0

City Clerk Preston said the city received eight applications for the single opening and conducted a quick recruitment as required by state law. Three applicants attended the meeting; Valeria (Rhiannon) Ashford and Natalie Norton made public statements in support of their interest and qualifications for arts and cultural programming.
Vice Mayor Bennett nominated Benjamin Metray, an architect with Butte County, and Council member Winslow moved to accept the nomination. Council member Goldstein seconded the motion, and the council voted 7–0 to appoint Metray. The clerk said the city will keep applications on file and contact applicants again at the next recruitment cycle later in 2026.
The council emphasized the importance of a full commission as it prepares for strategic planning and said the appointment will help the commission meet upcoming workload needs.
