Planning Commission continues 1205 Franklin hearing to Sept. 17

The Oakland Planning Commission on July 16 voted to continue the public hearing on the project at 1205 Franklin to a date certain of Sept. 17, 2025. Commissioner Alex Randolph moved to continue the item; the motion was seconded and the commission voted unanimously to approve the continuance.
John Kevlin, a land‑use attorney representing project sponsor Tidewater, told the commission the project representative and the city attorney assigned to the case were unable to attend because of illness and asked for more time. "On behalf of the project sponsor, I request that the commission continue this hearing," Kevlin said. He said the project team preferred the Sept. 10 meeting but would accept another September date if necessary.
Commissioners discussed whether to set a date certain (which avoids renoticing) or to continue without a specific date (which would require the applicant to renotice). Staff and the case planner, Heather Klein of the Bureau of Planning, said scheduling could accommodate a September date. Commissioner Randolph then moved to continue the item to Sept. 17; the motion passed with Randolph, Maurice Raab, Owen Lee and Chair Pro Tem Josie Ahrens voting in favor.
The secretary recorded the continuance and confirmed the item as rescheduled to Sept. 17, 2025. No other decisions were made on the project at this meeting.
