The police commission approved SFPD's proposal for community working groups in calendar year 2025, endorsing two priority DGOs: DGO 6.09 (domestic violence) and DGO 5.23 (interactions with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals).
Hitesh, SFPD's Community Working Group coordinator, summarized past-year accomplishments, including a completed DGO 5.20 working group (language updates, translation and LEP reporting changes) and near-completion of DGO 6.16. He said the working-group unit improved outreach and increased acceptance of recommended edits (approximately 72% of working-group recommendations were fully or partially accepted in one recent DGO).
The working-group proposal lists the two DGOs to receive stakeholder-driven review this year, explaining the domestic-violence updates will help align policy implementation with Proposition E operational concerns, and that the deaf/hard-of-hearing DGO will review training and tech options for accessibility. Jermaine Jones of DPA told commissioners the office supports SFPD's proposed working-group list.
The commission voted in favor of approving the working-group calendar. Staff said if a DGO requires Prop E community station meetings under that charter change, the commission and department will follow those requirements; SFPD said some DGOs will receive a Proposition E waiver where sufficient community involvement in the working-group process has occurred.
Next steps: SFPD will begin working-group meetings on the two prioritized DGOs and return with work products according to the DGO development timeline.
