Amelia County supervisors voted Tuesday to raise the income threshold for the county’s elderly tax relief program and to reappropriate remaining state school funds for continuing programs and projects.
At a public hearing, the board adopted an ordinance increasing the income cap for elderly tax relief from $30,000 to $33,000. A resident who spoke in favor said the change would help seniors on fixed incomes cope with rising costs. The board adopted the ordinance by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried.
Separately, school finance staff asked the board to approve carry-forwards of state funds remaining at the end of fiscal year 2025. The board approved a request to carry forward $192,013.22 in state "all in" funds to support tutoring services and $1,197,469.50 in state construction funds for future school projects. School staff said no county match is required for the carryovers and noted that the "all in" funds must be spent by June 30, 2026.
School finance staff also explained that post‑year accruals caused reporting anomalies for July and that final audited figures may change. Board members asked for clearer formatted reports going forward and requested staff provide updated financial documents produced after the recent fiscal-cycle close-out.
The board listed the ordinance and the carryforward approvals among several routine actions taken during the meeting; all passed by the board’s unanimous or majority voice votes with no roll-call tallies recorded.
