The Planning & Zoning committee reviewed a recently approved zoning-board decision granting homeowners Daniel and Pamela Hughes of 315 Village Drive a 12-foot variance to permit construction of a four-season room (about 144 square feet) and a 60-square-foot patio that would encroach into a 25-foot rear-yard setback on the original plat.
Chair Snitsky read the zoning-board findings and said the board approved the variance 5-0. He told council staff had mailed 60 notices for the zoning-board meeting and that three neighbors attended in support. An applicant who spoke described the addition as modest, suggested the setback issue derived from original construction choices by a prior builder, and said the expansion was needed to accommodate family gatherings.
Planning staff and the chair indicated the matter should proceed smoothly at council and said they hope to streamline similar processes in future.
