The Tooele Board of Education approved revised Policy 11018 on homebound and hospitalized student instruction on a second reading, and separately advanced a new policy on original student work to a second read.
During the consent and action portions of the agenda, a board member moved to advance the new 'original student work' policy to a second reading to gather public feedback. Board member Elizabeth said,
'I move that policy original student work be moved to a second read,' and the motion was seconded; the board voted in favor to place the draft on its next agenda for public comment and a second reading.
Later, trustees considered revised Policy 11018 on homebound instruction. Board member Emily moved the motion:
'I motion that we approve policy 11018 homebound guidelines and procedures,' which was seconded and then approved by the board.
Chantelle Cowan presented the original student-work draft (framed as addressing plagiarism, cheating, and AI gaps), and administration indicated the homebound policy had been discussed previously and was ready for implementation. The votes were recorded verbally in the meeting transcript (ayes heard during the roll calls); no roll-call tallies with member-by-member votes were included in the publicly available transcript.
Next steps: the original-student-work policy will be posted for public feedback and return to the board for a second reading; the newly approved homebound policy will be implemented according to the district's policy schedule.
