"Now therefore I Mayor Patty Whitby by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the state of Tennessee do hereby issue this proclamation on behalf of Carter County and the citizens of our community to recognize and thank all Carter County Volunteer Fire departments and constables for their service during our landfill fire," Whitby read during the meeting.
The proclamation, introduced during the commission meeting, thanked volunteers for working to contain the fire, coordinating with other emergency personnel, and protecting first responders and the public during a response that officials characterized as lasting about 10 days. The text noted that many of those who responded serve on a volunteer basis and commended their dedication to the community.
No formal vote was required for the proclamation; the mayor presented a plaque and the board indicated it would ensure constables received recognition material.
