Carbondale aquatics update: solar, plastering and fundraising leave pool on tight spring schedule

Town parks staff provided a construction and fundraising update for Carbondale’s new aquatic center at the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on Dec. 10.
Staff said the critical window for finishing work runs from January through April: solar panel installation and activation, final landscaping and planting, and plastering of the pool shell. The town expects to pursue a temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO) in January, which would allow staff to begin moving furniture, fixtures and equipment into the building ahead of a projected May opening.
On fundraising, staff described the municipal capital campaign as "a success" despite falling short of a $2.5 million goal. The committee reported contributions totaling more than $2 million; staff also noted the campaign’s donor wall and explained that some last‑minute donations continue to arrive. Because the project team chose to retain the adult amenity elements during construction, the town temporarily drew down reserves and staff said the budget plan includes backfilling a portion of those reserves over the next three years.
"We're over $2,000,000 in that campaign," a staff member said. The transcript later records a more specific figure in the committee update; staff emphasized that remaining fundraising and reserve replenishment are active priorities as the town completes construction and plans grand opening logistics.
Staff also discussed operational unknowns, including final operating costs, and said recruitment for pool positions will start in January once the town finalizes budgets.
The commission did not take any formal votes on construction changes; staff reiterated the timeline and pledged to return with additional updates and plans for grand opening events.
